starve的用法总结

　　The new job doesn't pay as much but we won't starve!

　　新的工作虽然收入不及从前，但我们起码不会挨饿了!

　　和Hunger一样，Starve也经常用作引申用法，但偏重于强调“缺少”，而不是“欲望、需要”。例如：

　　I felt starved of intelligent conversation.

　　由于没有与自己智力相当的人交谈聊天，我觉得非常难受。

　　Starve表示“饥饿”的本职领域虽然被Hunger侵占了一部分，但同时，Starve有时也用来表示Hunger所描述的“对食物的欲望和需要”。例如：

　　When's the food coming? I'm starving!

　　什么时候吃饭呀?我都要饿坏了!

　　在美国英语中，这种用Starve来指Hunger的情况，尤其常见。事实上，这是一种夸张，属于修辞用法。

　　很多时候，在I'm starving后面，还会跟上一句 I could eat a horse!
