都是“所以”，so和thus一样吗?

无论是TOEFL写作还是GRE写作，主体段中都必须有Reason对文章的观点进行展开，“因为”和“所以”是我们必须会写的句子。

例如，下面的句子翻译：

他们已经一整天没吃了，所以他们非常饿。

1：They had not eaten all day, so they were very hungry.

2：They had not eaten all day, thus they were very hungry.

上面2个句子里，so的句1是正确的，thus的句2是错误的。

接下来，我们和大家分析一下，都是“所以”，so和thus之间有什么区别。

词性不同

so表示“所以”是连词(conj.)，前后都是完整的主谓宾。

这也解释了为什么because和so不能连用，因为它俩的功能完全一致。

所以上面so的句子，语法上是正确的。

thus是副词(adv.)，在句子里不能连接2套主谓宾。

一般而言，thus有3种用法

SVO. Thus, SVO.(Thus句首大写)

SVO; thus SVO.(分号+thus)

SVO, and thus SVO.(and+thus)

而如果用thus，上面的例句可以写成：

They had not eaten all day. Thus,they were very hungry.

They had not eaten all day; thus they were very hungry.

They had not eaten all day and thus they were very hungry.

语境不同

so表示“因此”，更加生活化，一般在口语中使用。

我们经常会说so在句首开头的句子，但是在写作中最好不用。

thus表示“因此”，更加正式，一般在书面语中使用;

所以，我们的TOEFL/GRE写作，尽量使用thus。

除了thus，如果在写作中表示“因此”，我们还可以用下面3个词来替换，它们和thus的用法
